Canyon Hydro hydroelectric system in Costa Rica

Location: Costa Rica

Turbine Type: Twin-Nozzle Pelton

This dual-nozzle Canyon 1051-2 Pelton turbine powers a 14KW synchronous generator in Costa Rica.  A variable needle nozzle makes it possible to adjust for changes in stream Flow without shutting down the turbine.  The turbine intake was custom designed to fit in an existing powerhouse.

Canyon Hydro Hydroelectric System

Location: Washington State, USA

Rated Output: 11kW

Turbine Design: Single-Nozzle Pelton

This 9513 single nozzle turbine is used in a grid-parallel configuration with a utility in Washington State, and produces 11KW under 165 feet of head.  It was fitted with a custom deflector actuator to allow automatic restart after utility outages.  The manually adjusted needle nozzle allows the turbine to operate efficiently with varying flow rates.
